- Despite of the fact that it has not been so long that you started to perform photography professionally, you have succeeded to possess a strong and impressive portfolio of your own.  How did you decide to make a living with photography?

As I was creating in the mood of Still Life and publicity while I was interested in photography as a hobby, I had started to become  an assistant in order to fulfill my knowledge and curiosity. While working as an assistant, besides of photo shoot technics and the use of light.

I had the opportunity to see the details of how to create an ad photo, what sort of factors there are and the relationship between a client and a photographer and after a while, it wasn’t so difficult that the hobby that I was addicted to has become my profession.

- The Photoshop works especially on your advertisement photographs draw serious attention. Do you do all these on your own or are there any designers you work with?

My other hobby was to do stuff on Photoshop. I mean I could never think two of them separately. Because you produce something and when everything belongs to you on the idea phase, I think that my signature must be underneath the production and making it coming true phase. I postpone the project if I see my knowledge, skills and capabilities are inadequate.

- Speaking of Photoshop, let us ask if you see photography as art or not... On which side are you at this long lasting discussion?

I always find it unnecessary to argue on this subject. Beyond discussing if photography is art or not, it should be argued if my works are photographs or not... But I serve my works to people with the idea that one should interpret them however he wants. I do what I love and what I want to see, that’s all. Design, photograph, photomontage or the art itself, one can catch it in the way they want, I believe.

- While some people admire a period of time in the past and dream of going back, some others think of existing years later in order to witness the future. You were born in 1984 and you are 25 years old  today in 2009. Are you glad that you live in this period of time? How do you evaluate the future of our world?

Actually this is what I’ve been thinking about lately and I’ve come to this decision; I know that it’s not for me to live in this period of time, interestingly, I’m equally attracted to both past and future. I mean I would love to live in a space age where that ultramodernity and technology ruled the world and where human is no longer human anymore and if we’re going back I’m attracted to London in the late 18th century as much.

- Without a doubt, music is a huge power that inspires each domain of art. Do you like to listen to music while working? Are there any singers or bands that changes your mood, fires up your creativity that you define it as “essential”?

I think it doesn’t exist a moment in my life that I don’t listen to music.  At first, I had more depressive style but then it yielded to more relaxation and the feeling of rythm. Even though depressive things are gloomy, they can be inspiring in terms of lyrics and emotions. As a matter of fact, the lounge-house music that I listen to lately is not exactly a source of inspiration.  I think, from now on, I listen to music in order that it cleanse my mind and brain in rythms not to inspire me. We can say that I’ve changed my inspiration source.

- Imagine that you have an unlimited budget... Imagine that you can work anywhere with anyone, any team and with any equipment you want. You are going to materialize a  personal project which deals mainly with photograph. What kind of project would you carry out and with whom would you come together?

It would definitely be a high production work that I wouldn’t need to use Photoshop. I have several projects which are written aside already but delayed because of the lack of opportunities. Without doubt, it would be one of them but I think I shouldn’t give you any hints about them :)

- You’ve come a long way in your photography career in a very short time at a young age. You have your name under many works of giant clients such as Ford, Marshall, HSBC and Turkcell. In your opinion, what is the next big step for  photographers who work mainly in publicity and fashion areas? When you think about future, what kind of picture do you see? What kind of life do you predict in twenty years from now?

As a matter of fact, it is a very strange subject. If it was in old times, you could have continued your photography career till the age of 50 but today with digitalizing involved, illustration and 3D designs came into publicity sector as an opponent. Especially 3D is a significant rival to photography. If we keep on at the same speed, it is obvious that we’re going to come to the end of photography. At this point, I think that I can softly switch to movies and being a director because after a while it is getting harder to express yourself in a single frame.

- The Dutch photographer Elwin Olaf who is among the names that inspires you says that he is fed by movie directors such as David Lynch, Federico Fellini, Pedro Almodovar and Pier Pablo Pasolini. Are you interested in cinema with a more different approach of an ordinary viewer? Could you please share the directors that you find closer to yourself in terms of visual conception?

Cinema is definitely more diffirent for me than expected... I am totally addicted to Hollywood movies and I follow cinema in a field of high production and developed on a creative idea. I can say I’m a follower of Night Shyamalan and Steven Spielberg.

- Our theme in 15th issue of Bak Magazine is “love”. What does this word mean to you?

Insatiable state of mind.

Beyond discussing if photography is art or not, it should be argued if my works are photographs or not. But I serve my works to people with the idea that one should interpret them however he wants.
