1987

9 plus 8 equals the numbers next to them put together.
Is the year I entered this world, just fifteen minutes earlier before another girl who was born to look just like me.
Is the year when afro hairdos still existed.
Is the year when Guns n’ Roses satisfied its Appetite For Destruction.
Is the first year I didn’t get to drink chocolate milkshakes and eat cheeseburgers for lunch.
Is thirteen more years to a new millennium.
Is eighteen more years till PixelPastry gets established.
Is the year I thank God for bringing me into this world with two perfectly normal eyes.

Clients

Are new found friends.
Clients = Deadlines.
Are pastry-eaters.
High expectations.
Are people who believe in you.
Are people who leave the job to me and trust me to do a good job.
Are people who I hope will jump for joy or get excited each time I present to them their final design that they commissioned me to do.
Is my third favourite C word.
Does not really mean what it is defined in the dictionary.
Are contacts you should never delete in your phonebook.

Illustration

A passion.
Is seen through many people’s eyes.
Is interpreted through many perspectives.
Takes up a lot of my time and is the only thing that I don’t mind doing so.
Can leave an impact on people’s lives.
Looks best when blown up on a huge-scale print.
Requires a lot of attention from the designer.
Is a combination of many inspirations/elements/thoughts/feelings put together to form one fantastic aesthetically pleasing design.
What makes a good illustration piece is the presence of interaction among the elements that make up the piece.

School

La Salle SIA, College of the Arts.
Serves nasty, over-priced food.
Really isn’t that bad if they teach you what you’re most passionate about.
Is where you get to cross paths with other designers who may have shared the same experiences as you.
Is the reason why I have to wake up at 7 in the morning.
Is the reason why I can’t do freelance designing full-time.
Art schools teach you everything you have to know about designing and being in an agency, but they don’t give you the experience.

Fame

Is the four letter word that begins with a F.
Does not equal fortune.
Comes without knowing it.
Is destructive and distracting.

America

Hotdogs.
Burgers.
New York.
Cheese fries.
Bill Gates.
Steve Jobs.
Clients.
Ben n’ Jerry’s ice cream.
Four seasons.
Road trips.
Banana splits.
Over-commercialized products.
Live talk shows.
Artificial flavourings.
Ice cream-of-all-flavours.
A dozen funfairs.
Chocolate fudge sundaes.
Land of the good food.
Friendliest people.
A place where great minds collaborate.
New York advertising agencies.
Creative people.

PixelPastry

Was established in 2005 when I was 18.
Was the beginning to something that I didn’t expect to blossom overnight.
Had its initials first scribbled on the wooden plank of my bed.
PixelPastry oozes 110% fresh flavours, tastes that entice tastebuds and happy, well fed clients. It is all about the passion for design, whipping up new designs to suit every client's taste. PixelPastry will feed you with the freshest designing ingredients, dedicating every crumb to satisfy your visual pleasures. Eventually, what will be presented to you are oven fresh design and illustration served hot on a silver plate. Enjoy!

Future

Graduating from La Salle SIA with a degree in arts.
A full-time designer.
Living the dream.
Walking the talk.
Working on a computer, with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand programs all active, and with iTunes playing Sparklehorse’s latest album. And when I look around me, I see other designers typing, pentool-ing madly at their own computers. When I look at their computer screens, I see them churning out brilliant illustrations. And then I hear a phone near me ringing..... It’s another client on the line. Wow! (I don’t plan what’s going to happen to me in the future, but I’m hoping that this is the kind of situation I’ll be in.)
Design will go up a whole new level, and I’m taking it with me!
Expanding my client list and design skills.
Learning more from the professionals.
Getting know even more fantastic, passionate designers.

Singapore

A sunny island. A tiny dot on the world map. Chicken rice. 1965. Popiah (a local dish – made of crushed peanuts, beansprouts, chilli paste, and radish wrapped in rice flour skin. Something like a Chinese spring roll.) Multi-racial. Extremely clean. Hustle and bustle of the city life. A lot of movies get censored in Singapore’s cinemas. Active nightlife. Graffiti-free walls. Trees everywhere.
Rich heritage. Tiger Beer. Local talent. Baybeats. English, Chinese, Malay, Indian TV channels. Clean and green environment. Entrepreneuring kids. High-rise housing estates. Efficient public transport. A very safe country to live in. The Straits Times. “I Not Stupid.” A tourist’s shopping paradise. Fantastic local food.
