What does Nletylko mean?

Ha! You are the first man asking me about that name. It's interesting, because I'm using it since 4 years and now it's only a domain name, but many people associate me with "nietylko" what is not my name or even nick. I wonder how will you spell it ;) Anyway >Nietylko< should be written separately: >nie tylko< what means "not only".

It's always great to see simple and solid graphics, especially on posters. Following this idea, your creations give the audience what they want to see and what they exactly need to read. What do you know about Eastern European poster art?

That's correct - Eastern, or Polish Poster School impacted me about year ago. That's why some of my posters are naked, without computer graphic - the idea was to train some skills without new techniques, make simple and fast order. Polish Posters after WWII were unique because of style and theme. A lot of metaphors that will not irritate government plus new tools absence - thats why circus and theatral posters looks like. This stream is still active.

Which one makes you happier, poster designs, album covers, flyers or something else?

It's a good question. I really enjoyed posters because of their workspace. Albums are different, you have less space but you can combine lots of pictures so the final work is something similiar to book - every page brings something different. Both things makes me happy, but I'm enjoying illustration too - everything depends on theme, if it's interesting it's no matter where will you apply your work. Exploring new areas is also a good way to design more. I'm keen on new projects, so every next one makes me happier!

You live in your homeland, Poland. Have you ever thought about leaving your country?

Yes and no. Yes because of my personal needs to increase my knowledge, extend my skills, no because I think I can do my best here. I'm also fearful about starting life in other country. You know, few years working as a "wash machine" before starting work as a designer is not for me. Especially now, when poles roll in abroad (England, Ireland)... But, of course, I have my small dreams... :)

Imagine that you have a time machine and you have only one day to go back in the world history. Which day would you choose and what would you like to see most?

I wonder how Earth would look like before humans start to build present empires. When New York, Hong Kong, London and Sydney were empty. Ok, with two roads crossing, but thats all. I would like to see how everything raised. It could be crazy journey, but just for one day - why not.

What does inspire you while working or before starting to work? Do you have an idol?

You may not believe me, but I don't have (and never had) an idols. I would say I fell respect to many graphic designers, fashion designers, typographers, photographers, illustrators, movie makers, musicans etc. I'm inspired by the best designers, which make me feel so small, but also gives power to be better. My goal is to stay independent without a known style and that's why I don't have any idols - they may make me blind to their work and simple style copier. Thats why my artworks are so different. But - of course - I have my favorite design ways I will follow and spread.

Do you like music and does it change your mood while working?

I have to listen music. I love silence, but not while working. I'm addicted to music. I prefer trip hop and electronic sounds - Dj Shadow, Dj Krush, Fatboy Slim, Crystal Method are one of my favorites.

Theme of our 7th issue is "Dream". What does this word mean to you? What is your greatest aim in life?

I'm enjoying dreaming everyday. It makes me happier and allows to think abstract. Currently my greatest aim is to be as good designer as it could be. I'm working hard and I won't stop. I have many more things to learn but I want some of my designs will live longer than me so it is a good swap.
