Australia
Is big and dusty, filled with yobbos, bogans and Melburnians.
Melbourne
Home sweet home. I've never been to a place like it, with such a varied, yet vibrant and strong urban culture. A friend of mine from the UK described Melbourne as one big set of interconnected villages, and I thought that was a pretty good way of putting it; each individual suburb has it's own very distinct vibe. For every mood I've got, there's a place for me to go. Having this kind of cultural variety as an everyday commodity is something I took for granted until I did a little bit of travelling around Australia – I'd kind of presumed everywhere was like here, and it just isn't.
Depthcore
The future. It's the future for me, and maybe even the future for this kind of art. It is such an amazing place already, and I firmly believe we've only just begun to tap into our potential. There is so much left to do, I feel like we've barely begun. It's kind of hard to believe we've been doing this for five years now…
Chaos
Not really something I encourage, in life or in art. To me, this is a physical manifestation of a lazy or disorganized mind. I'm all for relaxing control, but always with a purpose in mind.
Surrealism
A pleasant alternative to realism. I've actually written several thousand words on this particular topic – if anyone is especially interested, feel free to email me, I'll shoot you some essay style reading material.
Excitement
Getting mail. I just love getting mail.
Love
is having my cup of coffee made for me in the morning.
Literature
Probably the biggest love of my life, outside of art and music. I'm a fairly avid reader, and I actually majored in creative writing at university. I read for two or three hours a day, and have done since I was about 5. I read everything; classics, plays, pulp, crime, fiction, biographies, you name it. Top three books of all time – Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, Candy by Luke Davies & A Case Of Lone Star by Kinky Friedman.
Morphine
You've done your homework I see… Morphine are my favourite band of all time. I go through phases of listening with them; they either completely consume me, or I ignore them completely. It is powerful, intricate, simple music that has no peer. Mark Sandman's lyrics are just amazing… I remember reading an interview with him once, he
recalled that "as a child, people told me they thought I'd grow up to be a poet. You have to wonder what kind of kid someone would say that to." He died on stage from a drug induced heart attack, aged 47. That kind of sums this music up; it was music that was a long time in the coming, that always knew where it was going to end up. It's my opinion that no artistic person should go through life without listening to their 1992 album 'Good'. I could ramble for hours about this band.
Future
is depthCORE is future is depthCORE is future is depthCORE is future is depthCORE is future is depthCORE is future….
